Action -- Not So Much

Not all writers can write actions scenes. They can get the mechanics of wording and pacing, but the ACTION part is not quite right. That's where I come in.

For instance, did anyone notice the mistake during a fight scene in The Bourne Identity? Jason Bourne broke the leg of his attacker. As a matter of fact, the camera very specifically shows him kicking the attacker in the scene. Then when Jason turned to his girlfriend, who was freaking out, the attacker stood up, ran to the balcony and jumped off.

It doesn't matter how high one's threshold for pain is. If the knee is broken, it's broken. It will not support the person's weight. To make the action scene more accurate, perhaps Jason Bourne could have done something else to take down his attacker. Or, if the knee absolutely had to be broken, the director should have had the guy hop, dragging one leg behind him, to the balcony then throw himself over the railing.

Think through your scenes. Make them realistic. And if you are in doubt, ask me and I'll give you my take on it.
